When Lady Shilight escorts the king's sister across the sea, their ship is attacked by pirates. A knock on the head causes her to lose her memory and she ends up in a far-off city with no idea of who she is. Circumstances

change and with the help of a traveling theatre troupe she begins her long journey home.

becoming a skilled swordsman, Shilight

falls in love and manages to provoke the ire of a witch. When the king rewards her loyality with a prestigious title and sends her throughout the Kingdom to do his bidding, she discovers there are men who are offended at having to take orders from a woman.
